Into Autumn
This collection reflects what draws me to autumn: low golden light, earthy color, and a landscape beginning to settle. Abundance and absence, brilliance and fading exist alongside one another. The work sits within that gradual turning, as one season gives way to the next.

Low morning light catches gold and violet among the grasses, illuminating blooms just opening beside those turning to seed. A reminder that the season does not fade evenly. The field holds both at once, color gathering in layers as summer slips away.

No field is ever simple. Look closely and it becomes an impossible weave of stems and foliage. As summer’s green recedes, the lines and architecture of the plants emerge, asking us to look again.

Setting out before sunrise, returning as the sun began to warm the ground. We wondered which view we preferred: the water, vast and open, or the marsh, deep and layered. Peering in felt like being invited to watch the world wake.

Ride after ride along the canyon road, I watched the goldenrod change. As the air grew crisp and the light sank lower, its yellow deepened into rust and violet, its silhouette sharpening against the paling field. Everything seemed to be shifting downward and inward, burrowing into the season.

Driving north at the end of a muted shoulder-season day, the sky began to blush, intensifying into a brilliant band of pink. A fleeting spectacle, offered for only a moment before the color faded and the sky carried on as if nothing had happened.

Cool sand underfoot, a crisp breeze, a piercing quiet. The landscape settles after the ambition of summer. Grasses toasted gold sway with a different rhythm now, stiffer, but still arcing with the wind.
